Victor Ponta, an independent candidate in the presidential election, declared on Wednesday that „the system has been activated again”, and through their „tools” in the Save Romania Union (USR), they are removing Elena Lasconi from the competition.

„The system has been activated again. Now, through their tools in the USR they are removing Elena Lasconi. They will do the same, of course, with Antonescu, to arrange everything, to steal the people’s vote for Nicusor Dan. I will not give in. George Simion, you should not give in. And we will give Romanians the opportunity to choose their president. Not a puppet of the system, but a president for Romanians”, Ponta said in a video on Facebook.

The USR National Bureau decided on Wednesday to convene a meeting of the Political Committee to vote on supporting independent candidate Nicusor Dan in the presidential elections in May.

Lasconi ruled out withdrawing her candidacy from the presidential race.
