4,328 companies suspend activity in first two months of 2024

The number of companies that suspended their activity in the first two months of 2024 was 4,328, an increase of 38.58% compared to the same period last year, according to data published by the National Trade Register Office (ONRC).

Most of the companies that suspended their activity were from Bucharest, namely 500 (up 24.07% compared to January-February 2023).

By activity sectors, the highest number of suspensions was recorded in wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, respectively 982 (plus 21.69%), in professional, scientific and technical activities – 453 suspensions (plus 42.9%) and construction – 413 suspensions (plus 67.89%).

In February 2024, there were 1,878 company suspensions, the highest number being recorded in Bucharest (223).
