The authorities evacuated 76 tourists stranded in the Moldoveanu Peak area of the Fagaras Massif, on Sunday, after an access road was broken, announced the Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (ISU) Arges.
„The last people were transported, safely, to the municipality of Curtea de Arges, by the minibus of the Costesti Fire Department. In total, 76 people were dropped off, during the day, from the Moldoveanu trail,” reads a briefing transmitted by ISU Arges.
According to the same source, the mission, in which mountain rescuers, firefighters and mountain gendarmes took part, was a difficult one, made difficult by the rough terrain.
The access trail to Moldoveanu Peak from the Fagaras Massif was broken by a flood, the Salvamont Arges Public Service announced during the morning.
„The trail to Stana lui Burnei on Valea Rea is broken 5 kilometers upstream from the confluence with Zarna! Please abandon all access plans to Moldoveanu,” Salvamont Arges also said.
Moldoveanu Peak, the highest mountain peak in Romania (2,544 meters), represents a point of attraction for a very large number of tourists during the summer.
