90 tonnes of waste from four EU countries prevented from entering Romania

Authorities in Arad and Bihor prevented from entering Romania five lorries loaded with about 90 tonnes of waste from Austria, Italy, Germany and Hungary, determining that the shipments are illegal.

The lorries were checked at the Nadlac II and Bors II border points and were driven by four Romanians and one Hungarian.

„They were transporting 90,140 kilograms of waste, consisting of various goods (second-hand clothing and furniture, aluminium, used tyres, metal mixtures), which came from trading companies in Austria, Italy, Germany and Hungary for various companies in Romania. The border police and representatives of the Bihor and Arad County Commissariats of the National Environmental Guard and the Bihor and Arad Consumer Protection Representatives have established that the drivers do not have complete documents required for the import of waste,” Arad Border Police said on Friday.

The authorities have ordered that the waste be returned to the shippers.
