Nationwide net average monthly pay advances to 3,801 RON in 2022

The nationwide average gross monthly salary in 2022 was 6,126 RON, by 10.7 percent (+591 RON) higher than in the previous year, while the net pay was 3,801 RON, up 11.3 percent (+385 RON) from 2021, shows data released on Friday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS), write Agerpres.

The sectors to see the highest average net monthly earnings in 2022 compared to the average across the economy were: information and communications (+102.4 pct), financial intermediation and insurance (+65 pct), the production and supply of electricity and thermal energy, gas, hot water and air conditioning (+57.4 pct), public administration (+46.5 pct), the mining industry (+44.0 pct), professional, scientific and technical activities (+26.2 pct).

Conversely, the industries with below-average monthly net earnings were hospitality (-43 pct), other service activities (-37.4 pct), real estate transactions (-27.7 pct), administrative and support services (-23.4 pct), water distribution, sanitation, waste management, decontamination activities (-18.8 pct), entertainment, cultural and recreational activities (-15.3 pct), wholesale and retail trade; motor vehicle and motorcycle repair (-15.2 pct), agriculture, forestry and fishing (-14.5 pct), the manufacturing industry (-9.5 pct), transport and storage (-8.8 pct), construction (-7.8 pct).

According to INS data, the 2022 real wage index (expressed as the ratio of the net nominal salary to the population’s consumer price index) was 222.4 percent compared to 1990, 5 percentage points lower than in 2021.

The average monthly labor cost in 2022 was 6,426 RON/employee, 10.8 percent up from the previous year.

According to data released by INS, the number of employees at the end of 2022 was 5.6 million, by 90,800 more than in 2021, of whom 63,900 females.

At the end of 2022, employees with privately-owned companies represented the majority (76.7 percent) and were by 1.9 percent more compared to the previous year.

Employees with trading companies accounted for 79.8 percent of the total number of employees at the end of the year, by 1.7 percent more compared to 2021.
