The contribution of the Roma people to the life of Romania was celebrated on Thursday in the garden of the Residence of UK Ambassador to Romania Andrew Noble, with a concert by Catalin Raducanu and Raisa Mihai and a photo exhibition with successful Roma in different areas and their stories, write Agerpres.
Ambassador Andrew Noble drew attention to prejudices about Roma and said that many Roma in Romania feel they have to hide their identity rather than celebrate it.
He believes that awareness of the importance of Roma in Romania needs to be raised. Andrew Noble also pointed out that there are Roma in the UK from Romania who contribute to the UK economy.
The diplomat pointed out that this is the fourth event consisting of a „cultural evening” dedicated to the Roma living in Romania and it represents a way to celebrate the contribution of the Roma and a step towards making them part of an inclusive Romania.
