LabMin Oprescu discussed situation of Romanian workers with Dutch counterpart

Published on

Romania’s Minister of Labour and Social Solidarity Simona Bucura Oprescu has welcomed Dutch Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Social Affairs and Employment Karien van Gennip to discuss the rights and situation of Romanian workers, fair labour mobility, co-operation in the area of occupational safety and health and vocational training and lifelong learning.

„We decided to sign a memorandum of co-operation that would provide clear and joint employment and labour inspection actions. One of these actions is related to correctly informing Romanians who go to the Netherlands about their rights, vulnerabilities and opportunities. In the field of employment, we will have joint work teams to increase the visibility and role of EURES (European Employment Services). I want us to get local administrations involved in these joint actions. On the other hand, an important objective of my term of office is also to develop the social economy in Romania and to support social economy enterprises, and from that point of view we can learn from good practices in the Netherlands. I want us to maximise the potential of the social economy in Romania,” Bucura-Oprescu wrote in a social media post.

The Dutch delegation also included Tim Versnel, deputy mayor of Rotterdam, and Hinke Nauta, deputy chief of mission at the Dutch Embassy in Bucharest.

There are currently about 60,000 resident Romanians in the Netherlands working in top fields (healthcare, IT), and also in construction and agriculture.
