The national minimum wage will no longer be set through negotiation alone, but a formula will be used to calculate it every year and I want us to finalize this mechanism this year, Minister of Labor and Social Solidarity Simona Bucura-Oprescu said on Monday, as cited in a statement published on the ministry’s Facebook page.
The Labor minister was on a working visit to Sibiu on Monday, which included unannounced visits and discussions with the employees of the County Pension Office, of the County Payments and Social Inspection Agency, and of the Territorial Labor Inspectorate, as well as a meeting with Sibiu County employers.
The main topics discussed with the employers concerned the labor shortage, professional training – that requiring a very low level of training in particular, skills improvement and the adjustment thereof to developments on the global labor market. Also, the employers were interested in how the minimum nationwide gross guaranteed wage will be established in the context of European Directive No. 2041/2022 Romania is about to implement.
„Various formulas are being currently examined, and the indicators considered are productivity, inflation and the correlation with the average wage. The good part is that once this mechanism is set in place, the minimum wage will no longer be established through negotiation alone, but a formula will be used annually, which will ensure predictability for both the employer and the employee,” Minister Simona Bucura-Oprescu said, as cited in the statement.
She also brought to mind that starting July 1, 2024, the minimum wage will increase to RON 3,700, as discussed in the Tripartite National Council meeting. AGERPRES
