President Iohannis to attend Special European Council, in Brussels, April 17-18

President Klaus Iohannis will attend the Special European Council, in Brussels on Wednesday and Thursday.

The head of state will also attend the reception hosted by His Majesty Philippe, King of Belgium, in honour of the heads of state and government of the European Union.

According to the Presidential Administration, the agenda of the meeting includes the prospect of a new Pact for European Competitiveness and the European Union’s relationship with Turkey. „The subject of the new Pact for European Competitiveness will be debated at length and will include a range of issues essential for the economic future of the Union, including: the Single Market, the Capital Markets Union, the Union’s industrial policy, energy, the circular economy, digital issues, trade policies, social issues, innovation, reduction of administrative burden, as well as agriculture,” reads a press release issued by the Presidential Administration sent to AGERPRES on Tuesday.

The EU leaders will also discuss the developments of the Russian war against Ukraine, the situation in the Middle East and the future EU Strategic Agenda.
