The National Liberal Party (co-ruling PNL) chairman Nicolae Ciuca, stated on Thursday at the private broadcaster Digi24 that he had discussions with the Prime minister Marcel Ciolacu, the minister of Finance, Marcel Bolos and the governor of the National Bank of Romania, Mugur Isarescu, for measures to reduce inflation, including the reduction of the reference interest rate.
„Regarding inflation, you should know that I also spoke with the prime minister, we are also having discussions with the Minister of Finance to take measures so that, including with the (BNR, ed. n.) governor, we can see how we can lower the reference interest rate, see how we can bring inflation to a level as low as possible because it affects the population,” said Nicolae Ciuca when asked about the evolution of inflation.
Moreover, the PNL leader was asked about the possibility of introducing, after the elections, the progressive tax and higher fees and taxes.
„We, the National Liberal Party, including in this year’s state budget law, introduced an article that states that we will have no (new, ed. n.) taxes this year. And we cannot discuss a progressive tax in the conditions in which the the single taxation system is not unique, it has not finished its effect, yet it was the one that produced economic growth in Romania,” Nicolae Ciuca answered.
At the same time, he stated that one cannot talk about a new taxation system without a fiscal-budgetary strategy.
„We cannot change the taxation system as we want. It is an absolutely logical matter, and those who are economists and analysts in the field know much better,” Nicolae Ciuca added.
