After June 10, it will be discussed in the party and in the coalition whether the Social Democratic Party (PSD) and the National Liberal Party (PNL) will go together or separately to the presidential elections, prime minister Marcel Ciolacu said on Sunday evening on the Antena3 private television channel, noting that he did not rule out the option of a joint candidate.
„Taking into account that we lost the elections for the position of president four times, I have no qualms about saying it: I did not vote for either Mr. Basescu or Mr. Iohannis. I am not happy either after the legacy left by Mr. Basescu, nor after the legacy left by Mr. Iohannis, as neither are you nor the vast majority,” added Marcel Ciolacu.
He stated that the current coalition was made following the vote of the Romanians.
„Mr. Iohannis had to respect (the people’s vote, ed. n.), like any European president, (…) and propose to the Social Democratic Party to form the government after winning the elections. Everywhere in Europe you propose to the party that wins,” the PSD chairman emphasized.
He also specified that there is no intention to change the date of the presidential election again, because the decision regarding the date of the presidential election was taken together with the PNL leader Nicolae Ciuca.
