Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu said in Targoviste on Monday that labour taxation in Romania is one of the highest in Europe, but he will not take rushed measures to reduce it, explaining the risks that exist.

„It is obvious that labour taxation, when we speak generically, is one of the highest in Europe. But the big problem is with labour taxation on low incomes. There we can say very clearly that it is the highest taxation. The package requested by the EU and assumed by Romania through the National Resilience and Recovery Plan, regardless of who signed it and how they negotiated it, is to have certain reforms in the tax area and a new wage law, both of which come as a package in terms of labour taxation,” Ciolacu said.

In this context, he explained the risks of measures taken „on the spur of the moment” to reduce taxation on the minimum wage.

He said that the government would try to come up with a system of deductions for those with low incomes.

According to him, some of the measures could be taken this year.

The prime minister visited the construction site for the modernisation of the Baldana – Titu National Road 7, and then attended the inauguration of the new cardiology ward of the Targoviste County Emergency Hospital.
