Twinning with Krakow, coming of LOT to Brasov – discussed by Polish ambassador with Brasov authorities

The twinning of the city of Brasov with the city of Krakow, the second-largest in Poland, the economic collaboration and the interest of the LOT airline to operate at the future airport in Ghimbav were the main topics of discussion in the meetings that the ambassador of Poland in Bucharest, Maciej Lang, had on Tuesday with the Brasov authorities, according to Agerpres.

As to the twinning of Brasov with Krakow, the Polish diplomat and the mayor of Brasov, Allen Coliban, decided that, in the next period, the relationship between the two municipalities will focus on the organization of joint cultural events and activities, and then the process will be accelerated formalizing the twinning, the Brasov City Hall transmitted.

„Krakow is interested in formalizing the relationship with Brasov. Krakow is a city with experience and great potential from a tourist point of view. In the past, it was the most popular weekend destination in Europe, and the cooperation and exchange of experience with Brasov from this point of view would be very useful. We must use our experience, memory and past to develop our cities,” said Maciej Lang.

For his part, Allen Coliban said that the two cities have in common the tourist interest part, that of valuing heritage, but also multi-culturalism and mentioned that they can collaborate on the investment side, in areas such as the automotive industry, IT and green energy, but also from the point of view of education and workforce training, both at the university level and at that of dual education.

„In the first phase, we will organize joint events and meetings, with a cultural character, in order to strengthen the collaborative relationship between the two cities. Then there will be meetings at the administration level and obtaining the necessary approval from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,” stated the mayor of Brasov.

The topic of the Russian-Ukrainian war was addressed during the meeting that the Polish diplomat had with the Prefect of the Brasov County, Mihai Catalin Vasii, and the President of the County Council, Adrian Ioan Vestea, conveyed, in turn, the Prefect’s Institution.

Another subject of the discussions was represented by the possibilities of cooperation, especially economic, between Brasov county and Poland.

„I know that your area has great potential in this sense. There are about 1,300 companies with Polish capital in Romania, but, unfortunately, too few in Brasov, although Transylvania is the preferred area for Polish investments in your country. There is an advantage in changing this state of fact, namely the presence of an honorary Consulate of Poland in Brasov. Today we will visit Brasov-Ghimbav International Airport, there is interest in a collaboration with the LOT airline. We also know that in Brasov county food products of a very good quality – for example, dairy products – which deserve to be known and sold in Poland,” emphasized Ambassador Maciej Lang.
