Chairman of the Standing Electoral Authority (AEP) Toni Grebla said on Tuesday that AEP has the most efficient antivirus software and the computer system used will work in the June 9 elections without being affected by possible cyber-attacks, mentioning that 40 foreign observers and several non-governmental organisations have so far been accredited for this election.

„We have taken all precautions in advance and made two or three simulations, especially regarding attacks from outside the electoral system administered by AEP. We have the most efficient antivirus software, at the moment, we have all the confidence that the computer system used by AEP will work without being affected by possible cyber-attacks,” Grebla told a news conference.

He said that there is a close collaboration with public cyber-security organisations.

He added that so far „a significant number” of observers, both foreign and national, have been accredited.

„We have several dozen NGOs operating in the area of elections, respect for human rights, including the right to vote. So far, we have confirmed the presence of 40 foreign observers. The process is ongoing.”

Grebla added that the media can come to polling stations and film on Sunday, June 9, provided they ensure the secrecy of the vote.

„Ballot papers cannot be filmed when being cast, they must ensure the secrecy of the vote. The rest, of course, can witness the counting of the vote,” Grebla said.
