More than 115 tonnes of waste from five European countries have been denied entry to the country by authorities in Arad and Bihor western counties after the shipments were found to be illegal, Arad Border Police said Wednesday.
Eight lorries, driven by seven Romanians and one Hungarian, were checked at the Nadlac II and Bors II border crossings points and were loaded, according to documents, with agricultural machinery, second-hand motor scooters, textiles, second-hand scooters and aluminium profiles, but were found to be just waste.
Border guards say that overall, the shipments weighed 115,728 kilograms of waste that came from companies in the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Hungary.
The authorities have ordered the waste to be returned to the shippers in the five countries.
