Seasonally adjusted unemployment rate rises slightly to 5.3%, in April

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate rose, in April this year, to 5.3%, an increase of 0.1 percentage points compared to that recorded in March 2024, according to the data of the National Institute of Statistics, published on Thursday.

Unemployment among young people aged 15-24 remained at a high level of 20.5%, but was down compared to March, when it stood at 22.1%.

The number of unemployed people aged 15-74 estimated for April was 443,600 people, an increase compared to the previous month (440,200 people) and compared to the same period last year (442,200 people).

For adults (25-74 years old), the unemployment rate was estimated at 4.2% for April 2024 (3.8% for women and 4.4% for men). The number of unemployed aged 25-74 represented 74.7% of the total number of unemployed estimated for April 2024.

The unemployment rate for men exceeded that of women by 0.6 percentage points, the respective values being 5.5% for men and 4.9% for women.
