Romanian Senate Chairman Nicolae Ciuca told in a meeting in Parliament with a delegation of German politicians from the CDU/CSU party led by Franz Josef Jung that Romania’s national defence industry can be revitalised by strengthening technical collaboration with the more experienced companies of Germany.
„In the context of increasing European capacity for the production of military equipment and ammunition, the contribution of the German defence industry is essential. We are encouraging German companies to enter into further technological partnerships with our defence industry. A huge opportunity can be participation in the modernisation of the Romanian armed forces,” Ciuca said, according to a press statement posted on the Senate’s website.
Ciuca also voiced full support from the Romanian Parliament for the objective of continuing and consolidating the excellent ties with Germany, both bilaterally and at the level of the European Union and NATO.
Given the current security context, the Romanian lawmaker said that the development of the defence industry is becoming increasingly relevant in the long-term projections on the economic competitiveness of the European Union, and Romania expresses interest in active participation with its national capacities and skills, being ready to coordinate with other EU member states in the joint development of such capabilities.
Ciuca also said that at European level, Romania and Germany are deeply committed to joint efforts for a stronger and resilient European Union, through a substantial and consistent contribution to key files and discussions, both on the internal and external dimensions of the European Union.
At the same time, he reconfirmed the determination of the Romanian Senate to support and promote the strategic partnership with Germany, given the mutual benefits and the positive impact on regional stability and prosperity.
