Over 2,500 companies, registered individuals enter insolvency 4 months into 2024

The number of companies and registered individuals (PFA) that became insolvent in the first four months of this year was 2,526, an increase of almost 15% compared to the same period in 2023, when 2,199 insolvencies were registered, according to data published on the website of the National Trade Registry Office (ONRC).

In April alone, 723 insolvencies were recorded.

The most companies and PFA that entered insolvency, between January 1 and April 30, 2024, were registered in Bucharest, namely 490, a number increasing 7.69% compared to the first four months of 2023.

Bihor county is next in the insolvency hierarchy, with 222 insolvencies (plus 47.02%), Cluj – 193 (plus 51.97%) and Timisoara – 145 (minus 51.04%).

The fewest insolvencies were recorded in Harghita – 5 (minus 61.54%), Mehedinti – 11 (minus 35.29%), Vaslui – 13 (minus 23.53%) and Olt – 14 (plus 61.11%).

By sector of activity, the highest number of insolvencies was recorded in wholesale trade, retail, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, respectively 677 (plus 9.9% compared to the first four months of 2023), construction – 523 (plus 22.48%) and manufacturing – 287 (plus 12.55%).
