Romania’s Jan – April industrial output advances 0.8 pct year-over-year

Romania’s industrial production over January – April 2024 advanced by 0.8 percent in unadjusted terms, and 0.2 percent as workday and seasonally adjusted series from the similar period of the year before, shows data released on Thursday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

Year-over-year, the manufacturing industry advanced 1.9 percent in unadjusted terms, while the production and supply of electricity and heat, gas, hot water and air conditioning dropped by 5.3 percent, and the mining industry dipped 0.5 percent.

Expressed as workday and seasonally adjusted series, industrial production between January 1 – April 30, 2024 was 0.2 percent up year-over-year as a result of the 1.2 percent growth in the manufacturing industry. The production and supply of electricity and heat, gas, hot water and air conditioning went down 6.2 percent, and the mining industry dipped 0.5 percent.

Month over month, April’s industrial output was 2.1 percent down in unadjusted terms due to the decline in the production and supply of electricity and heat, gas, hot water and air conditioning (-16.7 percent), the mining industry (-0.3 percent), and manufacturing (-0.1 percent).

In workday and seasonally adjusted terms, April’s industrial production was 1.3 percent down from March as a result of the decrease in the production and supply of electricity and heat, gas, hot water and air conditioning (-4.3 percent), and in the manufacturing industry (-1.5 percent). The mining industry went up by 3.5 percent.

Year-over-year, industrial production in April 2024 was 12.1 percent higher in unadjusted terms, as the manufacturing industry advanced 16.9 percent, the mining industry gained 5 percent, and the production and supply of electricity and heat, gas, hot water and air conditioning shrank 14.7 percent. Expressed as workday and seasonally adjusted series, industrial production was 3.6 percent higher in April 2024 compared to the same month of the previous year due to the increase in the manufacturing industry and the mining industry by 6.4 percent, and 3.9 percent, respectively. The production and supply of electricity and heat, gas, hot water and air conditioning registered a setback of 14.8 percent.
