Premier Marcel Ciolacu, South Korean DefMin Shin Won-sik on deepening sectoral bilateral cooperation

Published on

The bilateral relations between Romania and the Republic of Korea have been strengthened by active political dialogue, common strategic interests and cooperation on the security and defence line, prime minister Marcel Ciolacu said at the meeting with South Korean minister of National Defence Shin Won-sik, which took place on Wednesday at the Victoria Palace in Bucharest.

„I welcome the dynamics of the high-level political dialogue, which has outlined the trajectory for deepening sectoral bilateral cooperation. The Strategic Partnership between Romania and the Republic of Korea provides the necessary framework for long-term bilateral cooperation and also represents a solid argument for the modernization process of the Romanian Armed Forces, in the current security context. The field of defence is an important pillar of our collaboration, materialized by the recent signing of the first cooperation agreement in this field,” said the head of the Executive, quoted in a press release of the Government.

According to the source, the Agreement represents an important step in the development of bilateral relations in the field of defence, opening new opportunities for collaboration in areas such as military education, joint training of personnel, military medicine, research and development, as well as the defence industry.

„The bilateral relations between Romania and the Republic of Korea are developing on the basis of the Strategic Partnership, since the establishment of which the two states marked 15 years last year. Romania is the first country in the European Union to have established relations at the level of strategic partnership with the Republic of Korea, as the first strategic partner in the Asia-Pacific region,” the Government also specifies.
