Ciolacu: We are introducing the European minimum wage in Romania to protect purchasing power

Published on

Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu on Friday announced that the government will introduce the European minimum wage in Romania in order to protect purchasing power and raise the average gross wage to „as close as possible to 50% of the average net wage.”

„We are introducing today the European minimum wage in Romania in line with the European directive and after consultations with the social partners. Actually, we are aiming to protect purchasing power, an average gross wage as close as possible to 50% of the average net salary, linked to labour productivity. Let me remind you that from July 1 we will increase the minimum wage from 3,300 to 3,700 lei and about 1.8 million employees will benefit,” Ciolacu said at the beginning of a government meeting.
