At a plenary sitting on Wednesday, the Chamber of Deputies passed a bill under which sellers at shops and restaurants are placed under an obligation to request a valid ID for the sale of alcoholic beverages and tobacco products, in order to make sure that buyers are at least 18 years old.
The ID checking provision is said to be an attempt to reduce the consumption of alcoholic beverages and tobacco products by persons who have not reached the age of 18.
The Senate has already passed the bill, and the Chamber of Deputies is the decision-making body in this case.
