Romania feels the dangers of hybrid war that takes different forms amidst Russia’s war against Ukraine, Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu said on Monday, at a ceremony celebrating the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the General Defence Intelligence Directorate with the Ministry of National Defence (MApN).

„The war in Ukraine has made us all more aware of the dangers of hybrid warfare that extends beyond the borders of physical warfare. Romania also feels the dangers of hybrid war that takes different forms. Given the context, the role of intelligence departments is all the more important. We must remain vigilant to defend the values we believe in, to guarantee security, the economy and our citizens. In this fight for good, a vital role is played by the military intelligence organisations, and the work of the defence intelligence personnel is the basis for demolishing all the challenges, threats and risks that threaten the Romanian state and its citizens,” said the prime minister.

He added that the missions of the Romanian military in the intelligence organisations had a remarkable contribution to Romania’s security and to the major foreign policy projects of the country.

„In the 20 years after joining NATO, Romania has strengthened its profile as a responsible ally, actively involved in promoting democratic values and principles, security and stability in the Euro-Atlantic space and beyond. Our service people have valuable contributions to the NATO actions, to ensure the security of Romania, the entire region and all NATO member states.”

Ciolacu went on to say that within the NATO framework, Romania enjoys the most comprehensive security guarantee.

„Through the actions of the Romanian state, of our military, it is imperative to maintain the confidence of Romanian citizens in the Alliance’s ability to defend,” said Ciolacu.
