The post-fascist Brothers of Italy (Fratelli d’Italia, FDI) party, led by Giorgia Meloni, won first place in Italy’s legislative elections on Sunday, an unprecedented event since 1945, according to exit polls. The FDI won between 22% and 26% of the vote, according to AFP, Agerpres read.

Its coalition partners, Matteo Salvini’s far-right League and Silvio Berlusconi’s conservative Forza Italia (FI) party, won between 8.5% and 12 .5%, respectively between 6 and 8% of the votes, according to the survey of the Opinio institute carried out for the Rai national television.

Giorgia Meloni is set to become Italy’s first woman prime minister at the head of its most right-wing government since World War Two „The Italians sent a clear message in favor of a right-wing government led by Fratelli d’Italia,” Meloni said in a brief speech to the media in Rome.
