Government spending to be reduced as much as necessary to continue investments, says PM Ciolacu

Published on

Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu said on Wednesday that government spending will be reduced as much as necessary so that public investments, especially in infrastructure, can continue.

On a working visit to Prahova county, he was asked by journalists whether the reduction in budget spending envisaged this year will also cover the spending of the municipalities, in addition to that of the central government.

„I haven’t yet seen the proposal of the minister [of finance, editor’s note]. We will certainly reduce as much as necessary, so as to continue all that we have undertaken as investments, especially in infrastructure. Here is the road infrastructure, we also have in the area of health, you know very well all the things we have started,” said Marcel Ciolacu.

The prime minister reiterated that 60% of infrastructure investments are supported by the state budget.

He added that the sustainability of the economy is based on investments.

„Sustainability proves to come from investments, because Romania needs investments,” Ciolacu emphasized.

The head of the Executive paid a working visit on Wednesday, together with Transport and Infrastructure minister Sorin Grindeanu, in Prahova County.
