The president of the Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee, Mihai Covaliu, announced, on Monday, at the Official Hall of the Henri Coanda Int’l Airport, that by the end of this week the bronze medal from the floor final of the gymnastics competition of the Olympic Games, won by Ana Barbosu following the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport, will be in Romania.

„The medal will arrive in Romania very soon and our athlete will be able to take possession of it. There are some discussions within the International Gymnastics Federation, but the situation remains in our attention and that of the Romanian Gymnastics Federation. Until the end of this week, the medal will be in Romania. Our gymnasts competed with the best athletes in the world and demonstrated that they have the necessary value to climb the podium. And the medal that Romania finally received is well-deserved from any viewpoint,” Covaliu said.

He emphasized that the medal that will arrive in Romania will be exactly the one worn by the American Jordan Chiles on the podium in Paris: „I think we have all read very well what the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport says. There is a single bronze medal, and the resolution says that the athlete from the United States returns to the initial mark, and in this way the ranking changes. Thus, the athlete from Romania returns to possession of that bronze medal.”
