No problems with Romania’s water supply, Environment minister says

The hydrotechnical accumulations are currently about 77% full, so there are no problems in Romania in terms of water supply, only isolated such cases are registered, Environment minister Mircea Fechet said on Monday, in a press conference he held at the end of his visit to southern Dolj County.

„This means that the only problems with the drinking water supply are isolated ones and in no case are we talking about a systemic problem,” the minister stressed.

Fechet also said that from his point of view, the solution to combat desertification, a phenomenon that (Romania’s southern region) Oltenia is facing, would be the establishment of new forests.

„By chance, I started my working visit with a nursery in Carcea commune, where I saw how millions of seedlings of different species are produced every year, because as far as desertification is concerned, another serious phenomenon that this region is facing, the establishment of new forests is the only method by which we can stop this phenomenon and it is the only solution by which we can save what can still be saved,” the minister added.
