NATO radar in Tulcea enhances Romania’s security, PM Ciolacu says

Published on

Romania’s security has increased, Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu said in Brussels on Thursday, adding that NATO’s installation of a state-of-the-art radar in Tulcea is a „very good” measure.

Ciolacu was asked at a press conference whether Romania’s security risks have increased, given that NATO has brought a state-of-the-art radar system to Tulcea.

„No. Romania’s security has increased and there will be other measures that we will take. The drones come in at low altitudes, sometimes at the edge of the grass or water. Radars are usually aimed at much higher things. (…) Usually these radars are in the naval area. It’s a very good measure taken by the Defence minister, but it’s a measure that we took together with the strategic partner. To have access to these things you have to be in NATO and to have a strategic partnership with the United States of America,” the prime minister emphasised.
