Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu on Tuesday stated that the measure to exempt pensions up to Ron 3,000 from taxation is „correct” and will be approved by an emergency ordinance.
On the occasion of a press conference he held at the end of his visit to the Softronic company in Craiova, he explained that this threshold was left behind, after the recalculation, by approximately 800,000 people.
„Yes, because approximately 800,000 people left that threshold behind. And I also spoke with the minister [of Labour – editor’s note] and with the minister of finance, as well. And I will not hide from you that I continue to discuss such matters with Mrs. Mayor Lia Olguta Vasilescu [former Minister of Labour – editor’s note], because we all have to learn, we don’t know everything. So it is like this: either we would have issued a derogation for the 800,000, case in which the increase wouldn’t have been uniform and we would have said that the pensions increased by Ron 300 – 400, and I mean now in nominal terms, I am not talking about percentage points, when there were actually even bigger increases. In exchange, this approach seems correct to me – increasing the threshold to Ron 3,000 for taxation,” said the prime minister.
He stated that the measure will be approved through an emergency ordinance, considering that it is a parliamentary holiday and the procedure takes „a long time.”
According to Ciolacu, the budgetary effort is not a very big one. The financial impact will be around Ron 800 million, the prime minister indicated.
