All types of radiotherapy services for cancer patients to be settled

Published on

Health Minister Alexandru Rafila informs that the Government has adopted on Wednesday an emergency ordinance under which all types of radiotherapy services for cancer patients will be from now on settled, regardless of where the tumor is located.

These measures, which are meant to support the patients who need innovative medication, have been adopted at the request of the medical system and the patient associations alike. Minister Rafila specified that part of the measures were drafted by the National Health Insurance House.

He also mentioned that the measures refer inclusively to the implementation of the PAL-PLAN (the National Palliation Plan), as all categories of services are now to be settled, including those provided to outgoing cancer patients or at the patient’s home.

„Moreover, the type of health units that can provide such services will be extended,” said the minister.

Rafila went on to specify that the emergency ordinance also brings „a faster mechanism in terms of access to innovative medication” for such products that are unique in the case of these types of diseases. The mechanism will be applied including for the products that can generate savings at the level of the Unique National Health Insurance Fund, which will replace the more expensive drugs.

The Government also adopted measures that prolong an older law stipulating that patients who go to the private sector for certain types of services should pay a certain amount.
