Chairman of the National Liberal Party (PNL) Nicolae Ciuca voiced his conviction that he will be in the second round of the presidential elections alongside Social Democratic Party (PSD) leader Marcel Ciolacu.
Asked on Wednesday evening on public broadcaster TVR Info who he thinks will be in the presidential final round, the PNL leader answered: „Ciuca – Ciolacu”.
„It is a matter that can be easily explained, not that we are talking tonight and that I want this matter. The first round of elections, demonstrated over time, has been every time materialised, concretised as a result of the parties’ ability to organise and mobilise. We have 1,146 mayors, 12 county council presidents, 11,500 local councillors, 350 county councillors. We have an army and we have party active members. I believe very much in the members of the National Liberal Party, in our mayors, in our councillors, in our deputies and senators. We are a right-wing party, the largest right-wing party, not a party, the largest center-right party that has all the tools and all the necessary strength to be able to take its candidate to the second round,” Ciuca said.
Asked about his relationship with prime minister Marcel Ciolacu, the PNL leader described himself as a person who does not enjoy conflict and never has. „As a military man perhaps better than anyone I value peace and non-conflicting relations. The relationship with Marcel Ciolacu has always been and will remain a somewhat institutional one, between two normal people, two party leaders,” said the liberal leader.
Referring to the attacks at the PSD congress, Nicolae Ciuca said that „now they can’t explain them either, because they have no arguments whatsoever”.
„I was expecting that at that congress we would see the details of a programme, we would see solutions, not attacks on the PNL. Again there is a fear that for the Social Democratic Party, the real competitor in the end-of-year elections is the National Liberal Party – it is the best example and that is what they showed through those attacks,” Ciuca added.
