Bucharest mayor concerned the right-wing does not join forces at national level

The mayor of the capital, Nicusor Dan, said on Thursday that he is concerned that the right-wing parties do not coalesce at the national level, so that after the parliamentary elections they can secure the government.

„I’m a little worried. Without talking here about my capacity as mayor – simply as a citizen who wants for himself, for his family, the good of this country – I’m worried that the right-wing is not joining forces at the national level. First of all, my thesis is that the right-wing governments, as they were after the Revolution, were better than the left-wing governments, whether we are talking about the Democratic Convention or the DA Alliance compared to the Ciolacu Government, the right-wing government is better for Romania, in my opinion. That’s why I would very much like to have a right-wing majority in Parliament, which can give a right-wing government in the next four years,” said the general mayor, for Digi 24.

He mentioned that, according to the electoral calendar, alliances are submitted to the Electoral Office until September 10. Formations such as the National Liberal Party (PNL), Save Romania Union (USR), Forta Dreptei, REPER, People’s Movement Party (PMP) or Alliance of Independence, but also other small local parties should propose a project for a common government, Nicusor Dan appreciated.

According to him, the reproaches that the leader of the PNL, Nicolae Ciuca, and the president of the USR, Elena Lasconi, formulated in public do not represent „the happiest thing”.

„We have had a PSD-PNL alliance for almost three years. We saw the period when it was led by the PNL, when we saw a balance. And now we see this alliance led by the PSD, in which we see that the PNL is ignored. In the conditions in which this state of affairs will be perpetuated and if we will have a left-wing president, practically, the right-wing parties that will enter the government will not matter. I think this is the risk for Romania,” he also said.

The mayor of the capital also appreciated that the right-wing parties, but also the people inside them, „must pull in the same direction”, because the stake is the government for the next four years. He emphasized that he values the president of Bihor County Council (CJ), Ilie Bolojan, considering that he is a man „with vision” and courage, who contributed to the development of the community, but also reduced public expenses. On the other hand, he said that the name of the future prime minister is not a priority.

„Before talking about the prime minister, we have to talk about the majority in Parliament that supports a government led by that prime minister. This is where we are, in fact. And our problem is not the name of the prime minister, but if all these parties, together , manage to get a majority in the Parliament. And as things stand today, it doesn’t seem like it,” said the mayor.

The general mayor reiterated that he would like the liberals to be part of a majority that would support him in the General Council. At the same time, he was optimistic that this will happen.
