Prime minister Marcel Ciolacu said on Wednesday that a modern, safe and efficient public sector, which works for Romanians and Romanian companies can be built only through the real digitalization of the state.
The head of the Executive participated on Wednesday, at the Victoria Palace of Government, alongside the minister of Research, Innovation and Digitalization, Bogdan Ivan, and other government officials, in the signing event for the Dedicated Cloud component of the Government Private Cloud, a project that is part of the investment „Implementation of government cloud infrastructure” of Component 7 – Digital Transformation under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR).
„For 30 years, bureaucracy has been forcing us to stand in queues, submit an online application at the desk on the second floor or, worse, take a day off to obtain a document that the state is obliged to give us! From my point of view, not only as prime minister, but as a simple citizen, the digitalization of the administration is one of the most important things when we say that we want a country like abroad. A country where the state serves the citizen, not the other way around. Because digitalization will prohibit institutions to send Romanians on a fool’s errand or turn them into couriers!,” said prime minister Marcel Ciolacu.
He emphasized that by signing the contract, all public services offered by institutions will be in one place, and Romanians will be able to access all digital public services with a click on their phone or computer.
„And, most importantly, all institutions will speak the same language and operate in the same IT system, in a secure way, at the highest global standards. At the same time, by uniting all the institutions in a single IT system, we make savings to the budget and bring efficiency for every Romanian and for every company in Romania. Today, each of us manages almost all aspects of modern life via the telephone. In 2025, once the two contracts – the one signed today and the one signed in March – are finalized, we will be able to interact digitally with public institutions, every Romanian will be able to request and receive the necessary documents from anywhere, anytime, in complete safety. This means the disappearance of bureaucracy, of queues at desks, of the fool’s errands that we are used to! This means a genuine reform of the state administration, the digital transformation of Romania!,” said Ciolacu.
In conclusion, the prime minister told those responsible in the field to make sure that all the checks have been carried out before launching the project online.
„I conclude with a request, given the experience of the Trade Register, I ask you one thing: make all the necessary checks before moving the system from off-line to on-line! Digitalization should simplify people’s lives, not make them difficult!,” Ciolacu said.
