Volume of construction works decreases overall by 2.7 pct in first seven months of the year

The volume of construction works, as unadjusted series, decreased overall by 2.7% in the first seven months of the year, compared to the same period last year, on account of the decline in maintenance and current repairs (-7.2%) and new construction works (-2.1%), according to data published on Wednesday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

Between January 1 and July 31, 2024, capital repair works increased by 3.5%.

By construction objects, decreases were recorded in residential buildings (-22.7%) and non-residential buildings (-2.2%). Engineering constructions increased by 7%.

Expressed as workday and seasonally adjusted series, the volume of construction work decreased by 2.5%. Current maintenance and repair works and new construction works fell by 3.6% and 3.4% respectively. Capital repair increased by 4.9%.

By construction objects, decreases were recorded for residential buildings (-22.3%) and non-residential buildings (-0.6%). Engineering constructions increased by 8.1%.

In July this year, the volume of construction works decreased by 2.5% in unadjusted terms, compared to July 2023.

By structural elements, decreases were recorded in maintenance and current repair works (-16.3%) and new construction works (-1.6%), while capital repair works increased by 23.5%.

By construction objects, decreases were recorded in residential buildings (-23.6%) and non-residential buildings (-1.2%). Engineering constructions increased by 5.2%.

Expressed as workday and seasonally adjusted series, the volume of construction work fell, overall, by 2.3% in July, at an annual rate. By structural elements, decreases occurred in current repair works (-14.9%) and new construction works (-3.6%). Capital repair works increased by 17.3%.

By construction objects, the volume of construction works increased in engineering constructions (+1.7%). Residential and non-residential buildings decreased by 23.6% and 3.9% respectively.

In contrast, the volume of construction work increased, in unadjusted terms, by 0.1% in July 2024, compared with the previous month, with an increase in capital repair works (+17.7%). New construction works and current maintenance and repair works decreased by 2.3% and 2% respectively.

By construction objects, engineering construction works and residential buildings increased by 0.1% each. Non-residential buildings decreased by 0.1%.

The volume of construction works increased in work day and seasonally adjusted terms by 0.9%, due to the increase in capital repair works (+16.1%) and in maintenance and current repair works (+2.5%). New construction works decreased by 3.8%.

By construction objects, the volume of construction works decreased in non-residential buildings (-1.9%), residential buildings (-1.6%) and engineering constructions (-1.2%).
