Romania cannot claim a leading position on the external stage without a transparent and efficient management of its internal resources, President Klaus Iohannis said on Wednesday on the occasion of the 160th anniversary of the establishment of the Romanian Court of Accounts.
„Romania is today at a turning point of an unprecedented complexity in recent decades. The war in Ukraine and the unforeseen geopolitical developments in Eastern Europe show that we are witnessing a resizing of the poles of power, and our country has a central role in this equation. Through its principled coherence and strategic predictability, Romania has today reached the point where its regional role becomes a factor of balance and stability in the current geopolitical context,” said President Iohannis at the anniversary conference held at the Romanian Athenaeum.
Iohannis also said that „the benchmarks of integrity and public accountability are crucial” for national security, economic development and the strategic positioning of the country on the international stage.
„As an EU and NATO member state, we are aware of our responsibilities for the stability and security of the entire region. But perhaps just as important is to understand that Romania cannot claim a leading role on the external stage without transparent and efficient management of its internal resources. In the face of multiple crises, ranging from energy to financial and security crises, the efficiency, integrity and sustainability of the way in which resources are managed become mandatory elements for national competitiveness and resilience,” said President Iohannis.
Also attending the event „Responsibility. Relevance. Resilience in a world of challenges” are Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu, Senate President Nicolae Ciuca and Chamber Speaker Daniel Suciu.
