REPER Party releases Platform for Democracy, Prosperity and Progress

Published on

The REPER Party on Tuesday released the Platform for Democracy, Prosperity and Progress, at Parlaiment House, with the party’s leaders also unveiling the party’s manifesto for the general election of December 1, 2024.

REPER co-chair Ramona Strugariu said that it is a platform that brings together several pro-European parties – REPER, ACUM, DEMOS and independent candidates, including former head of the Environmental Guard Octavian Berceanu.

„We are discussing with political parties and colleagues from all over the country and we are releasing a political manifesto that is also a first in that our slogan ‘People first’ means that we are doing something that the incumbent government has practically abandoned at this moment. The reality is that the government has abandoned its citizens, brought the business community to a halt and is throwing an entire country into chaos. There is more poverty, there are more inequalities, we are feeding a clique from public resources. (…) Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu has probably achieved the most shameful record and the most shameful budget revision in the career of a prime minister – he practically revised the government deficit from 5% to 7% in record time. That means that Romania is decreasing and losing, instead of growing every day,” said Strugariu.

She added that she had not heard any presidential candidate or political party speak clearly and loudly about investing in people, about respect for their rights and freedoms, about defending the rights and freedoms in all their dimensions – from economic freedoms to equal opportunities, non-discrimination, freedom of expression, getting out of poverty and vulnerability or the right to choose safely for women, „which seems to be a taboo subject for all political parties today”.

„‘People first’ is not just a campaign slogan, it is basically the purpose of this platform, a platform that has a distinct place on the political scene,” said REPER co-chair Dragos Pislaru, adding that the platform contains „six crucial pillars”: inclusive and equitable education (earmarking 6% of GDP for public spending on education), the rule of law, open and democratic, efficient economy, social justice, healthcare (efficient investments in the healthcare system, prevention, access to health for all, reform of healthcare financing, reproductive health), environment and sustainability.
