It is natural to try to build right-wing political bloc for future government, PNL’s Stroe says

The spokesperson for the National Liberal Party (PNL) Ionut Stroe said on Friday that it is natural for the PNL to try to build a right-wing political bloc for the future government and even in the local and county councils.

„It’s absolutely natural, it’s absolutely normal for our eyes to turn to the right. We are the biggest right-wing party, we are traditionally the integrating party of all right-wing ideological currents in Romania. It’s natural, I would say, to you are trying to build a right-wing political bloc for the future government, as well, why not, maybe even in the local councils and county councils we should try to achieve this. You saw in the public expression of the ideas we care about, a recommendation, which was made even to the county organizations, to try to constitute right-wing majorities where possible”, said Stroe after the PNL leadership meeting, when asked what majority the National Liberal Party is thinking of after the elections.

He added that the approach to the general mayor of Bucharest, Nicusor Dan, is „as natural as possible”.

The spokesperson for the PNL also referred to the statement of the leader of the USR Bucharest Vlad Voiculescu according to which there are no negotiations for a majority in the Bucharest City General Council. „Until we get to these discussions, we have to overcome the rigidity, inflexibility and almost impossible conditions set by their presidential candidacy,” Stroe pointed out.

Asked about the statement of the PSD president, Marcel Ciolacu, regarding a possible continuation of the coalition with the PNL after the elections, Stroe said that the PSD leader wants to get closer to the PNL in electoral interest.

„Obviously, Prime Minister Ciolacu wants this approach to the PNL in the interest of elections, in the sense that he wants to offer a perspective to those from the PSD and supporters in terms of governance. But this will not happen, because, I told you from the very beginning, it was a compromise that we made three years ago, it was the only possibility to ensure a parliamentary majority that would ensure the much-desired functionality and stability of the government. Otherwise, we would have taken an enormous risk to end up in the situation of other countries, even from the neighborhood, which organize early elections every six months”, explained Stroe.

He emphasized that he does not believe that this will happen again. „After all, we have reached the end of an electoral cycle, the Romanians are called to decide clearly and firmly what is the option for the next four years. We want a right-wing government, we want a Liberal National Party that will be the leader of the future governments”, Ionut Stroe also declared.
