A Romanian wanted internationally, after being sentenced to 20 years in prison for murder, was brought to the country from Germany, the Minister of Justice, Alina Gorghiu, announced on Wednesday.

„A ‘Most Wanted’ fugitive brought to the country last night. Romica Fleican, sentenced to 20 years in prison for particularly serious murder, attempted particularly serious murder and robbery. He managed to escape and hide for several years. In 2016, he was turned down in Germany, citing the conditions in the prisons in Romania visible in the conditions of detention in Romanian penitentiaries,” said Alina Gorghiu, on her Facebook page.

According to the minister, 618 fugitives were brought to the country this year, and among them, 142 from Germany. „It is the second country in terms of the number of surrenders. And I assure you that we will continue,” stated Gorghiu.
