PNL’s Turcan: USR motion is pure politicking

Published on

Culture Minister Raluca Turcan said on Thursday that a motion of censure announced by the Save Romania Union (USR) is pure politicking, adding that she does not see why the National Liberal Party (PNL) should leave the government.

„We ended up forming a coalition with the Social Democratic Party (PSD) because USR left the government and Romania needed governance and stability. Since I talked about stability at the time of setting up this coalition, I believe that stability must be the one to prevail until the time of elections. If you ask me, the USR motion is pure politicking, they have not even checked the legal deadlines that could run when the government supposes that it would be dismissed in Parliament. From the perspective of PNL’s exit from the government, I think it is excluded. The PNL was in the government, it owned government in very difficult moments. I don’t see why PNL should leave the government. Whoever does not want to stay is free to leave,” Turcan said at the Parliament House before a meeting of the National Political Bureau of PNL.

She added that PNL is in the government because it has things to do, „not because it is watching over the PSD.”

„From my point of view, the role of PNL in the government is to govern well and to deliver, because, as I have said many times, governance is about things achieved, about performance, integrity, including holding fair elections. Therefore, PNL has a lot of work to do in government. From my perspective, only as the culture minister, I can tell you that we already have projects that have had an effect and I am referring to many investments, and until the time of the elections there are still things to be done. To close, PNL is part of the government because it has things to do, not because it is guarding PSD, but if abuses or slippages occur, PNL is a very responsible party,” Turcan said.

Asked if there has been any abuse so far by the PSD, she replied: „I don’t want to comment, let’s say, the political action of PSD in the government because I am a member of the government; what I have to say I say in the government, but let’s not forget that we are only a few days away from an abuse, from my perspective, of the Constitutional Court (CCR), where an extremely dangerous precedent for a democratic Romania was created”.
