National leader of the National Liberal Party (PNL) Nicolae Ciuca said on Wednesday that „there is no longer any trust in the Social Democratic Party (PSD),” adding that the Liberals will come up present with their own manifesto next week and that he will no longer enter a joint government with PSD.
„Trust without sincerity cannot exist. We will carry through this governing, but there is no longer any trust in the Social Democratic Party. In fact, the National Liberal Party will put forth next week its own manifesto for the 2024-2028 cycle, which is totally opposed to the statist thinking of PSD. I interrupted my dialogue with PSD when [PSD national leader] Marcel Ciolacu totally changed his behaviour in the coalition. Now it is clear why. Because he had a clear scenario together with AUR [Alliance for the Union of Romanians] and George Simion,” Ciuca told the release of his presidential manifesto „Prosperous and Safe Romania.”
He added that he will no longer enter a joint government with the PSD.
„Consequently, I have said several times, I no longer govern with PSD.”
In his opinion, Romania needs a president devoted to freedom, democracy and prosperity and liberal values are not compatible with „lack of character, lack of freedom or a strange democracy.”
„As president, I will permanently come before Romanians to communicate openly, I will be a real mediator between the state and society and I will remain close to the people. I will be a president in the service of the country and I will exercise my tenure with honour and faith. I will be a president with real values, with liberal values, and liberal values are not compatible with a lack of character, with a lack of freedom or with a strange democracy, which serves personal interests. My cause has been in the hearts of Romanians for a long time. From now on, our struggle is exclusively a battle of character, a fight for the family, for the community, for the country. This is my commitment to Romania,” Ciuca said.
