Four Romanian boxers qualified for the quarterfinals of the World Youth Boxing Championships in Budva (Montenegro), after scoring victories in their respective matches on Sunday.
Daniel Grigorie defeated Ben Ndjibu Wa Ndjibu (RD Congo), in the round of 16 of the 63.5 kg category, on points (4-0), and in the quarterfinals he will meet Uzbek Abdulaziz Jurakulov, on October 29.
Nicu Arun Tudoroiu also defeated his opponent on points (5-0), Israeli Adrian Warwar, in the round of 16 of the 67 kg, his next opponent being Mexican Juan Diego Flores Guerrero, whom he will meet on October 29.
In the women’s category, Ramona Mihaela Manea qualified for the quarterfinals of the 50 kg, after a tight victory, on points (3-2), against Spanish boxer Rocio Sanchez de Diego, and her opponent in the next round will be Heghine Petrosian (Armenia), whom she will meet on October 30.
Valentina Elena Morosanu also qualified for the quarterfinals, in the 54 kg category, after a victory by technical KO in the second round against Kyrgyz Alina Sizonenko. Morosanu will climb into the ring again, on October 29, when she will fight Venezuelan Genesis Katherine Horta Acevedo.
In the 48 kg category, Silvia-Mihaela Meltzer lost in the round of 16, by technical KO, in the third round, to Chinese Weimei Zeng.
660 athletes from 88 countries registered for this competition, Romania being present with a delegation of 21 athletes, 12 for women and 9 for men.
