President Klaus Iohannis on Monday signed the decree accrediting George Gabriel Bologan as ambassador of Romania to the Holy See.
According to the Presidential Administration, the head of state also signed the decree for Bologan’s release from the office of presidential adviser.
George Gabriel Bologan has been presidential adviser (Department of Foreign Policy) since February 2024. Previously, he was consul general of Romania in Milan (2012), ambassador of Romania to Italy (2016-2022) and ambassador of Romania to the Kingdom of Spain (2022- 2024).
He is also an associate professor at the West University of Timisoara, Faculty of Political Sciences, and a doctoral student at Babes-Bolyai State University in Cluj-Napoca, Faculty of History and Philosophy, Department of International Relations and European Studies.
He represented Romania at several informal meetings during the Italian and Spanish presidencies of the Council of the European Union.
He was awarded by the president of Italy with the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic in rank of Grand Officer (2019), the Emblem of Honour of the Romanian Defence Staff (2023), the Order of St. James the Great of the Romanian Orthodox Bishopric of Spain and Portugal (2024) and the Order of the Holy Trinity of the Romanian Church United with Rome, which is the Romanian Greek-Catholic Church (2018).
