The day of November 11 has a special meaning, as it honours the acts of bravery of the veterans from the Theatres of Operations, those who, through their courage and irreproachable behaviour in missions, made the Romanian Army respected and appreciated all over the world, the president of the Senate, Nicolae Ciuca, the leader of the National Liberal Party, stated on Monday.
„Today I honour the acts of bravery of my comrades, veterans of the Theatres of Operations, those who, through their courage and irreproachable behaviour in missions, made the Romanian Army respected and appreciated all over the world. I spent good years of my life in the theatres of operations: Iraq, Afghanistan, Angola. I know what it means to be away from home and loved ones and I know how hard it is. That’s why November 11 has a special significance not only for me, but for the entire Romanian Army,” Ciuca wrote on Facebook.
The Day of Veterans of the Theatres of Operations was established by law ten years ago.
„The date of November 11 was not chosen by chance: it is celebrated throughout Europe, because on that date, in 1918, the armistice between the Entente Powers and Germany entered into force, which ended the First World War. Also on November 11, 2003, second lieutenant Iosif-Silviu Fogorasi, the first Romanian soldier to die in the Theatre of Operations in Afghanistan, died posthumously. Let’s honour the sacrifice of wounded soldiers and bow with respect to those who paid with their lives. Happy birthday to all Veterans from the Theatres of Operations! May God rest those who fell in the Theatres of Operations!” reads the message sent by Nicolae Ciuca.
