The interim president of the PNL (National Liberal Party), Ilie Bolojan, on Monday stated that, in his opinion, the premises are already created for the political parties that agreed on the creation of a coalition to enter into discussions on establishing the governing programme starting on Tuesday.
„As far as I see things, based on the agreement that was signed last week, I believe that all the premises are created for the signatory parties to basically enter into discussions starting tomorrow afternoon about what needs to be done in the coming period, in the sense of establishing the government’s programme, a clear plan that will follow what this coalition has to do in the coming months, and then each party, depending on its weight, will send its best people in the areas in which they are prepared and experienced,” Bolojan said on Digi 24.
He spoke about reducing the number of ministries, secretaries of state, agencies and parliamentary committees. The PNL leader also argued that deputy prime ministers should have portfolios.
„Not trying to reduce, for example, the number of ministries, from my point of view, the number of parliamentary committees, the number of secretaries of state, the number of agencies, of management positions means again that we have not understood that Romanians voted not because they are anti-Western or because they have a problem, but simply voted against a political world that did not give them the feeling of trust, of professionalism, and with that I do not believe that there is an ideological problem at all in the coalition. (…) I believe that stopping reckless spending in the Romanian state is a matter of necessity at the moment,” stated Ilie Bolojan.
The PNL leader expressed his hope that by the end of the year there will be a new government, based on a parliamentary majority formed by pro-European parties.
Bolojan added that he does not believe that one of the pro-European parties should go into opposition.
„From my point of view, the big effort next year is the effort to govern and the more stable the coalition is, with all these parties in the coalition, the better things will look, and the more everyone comes with the best people, puts their best minds to work, puts all their energies and values, the more stable the coalition is. The measures that will be taken will not be popular measures, we must not generate this expectation anymore,” said Bolojan.
He stated that he could not say what the ideal calendar would be by which the coalition and the new government would be achieved. Ilie Bolojan also emphasised that regarding the budget for 2025, it is good for it to be adopted as soon as possible, and the current Government can prepare the project in broad terms.
