Lasconi: USR to assume government, honest government, with reforms, minority government, not stable solution

Published on

Save Romania Union (USR) shall assume government, but an „honest” government, „with reforms”, said on Thursday the party’s leader, Elena Lasconi.

„We have constantly conveyed our total availability in negotiations. What does honest mean? Marcel Ciolacu and PSD [the Social Democratic Party] to come up with the exact figures related to the situation of the country’s budget and to assume the OUG [Emergency Ordinance] that should fiscally close this year. Why do they keep lying about the country’s situation? Is the hole they have created in the state budget that big? Let them tell the truth, let everyone know what a mess they’ve made and see how we can fix it. Precisely because we are on the brink of the precipice, we need reforms. Assumed, clear, detached from populism and group interests,” wrote the USR leader on Facebook.

According to her, a minority government is not „a stable solution” that can carry through the necessary reforms.

„What reforms? Let us start with the reorganization of the state which, as it has been seen, is not working in the interest of citizens. How? Cut unnecessary spending, reduce the central budgetary apparatus and reform the justice system. And the list can go on with examples of the 8 points already discussed with PSD, PNL, UDMR and the Group of National Minorities,” Lasconi added.

Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu announced on Thursday that PSD is withdrawing from the talks to form the executive and will vote in Parliament a right-wing government.

President Klaus Iohannis said that the last thing Romania needs is an extended governmental and parliamentary crisis.
