Prosecutors with the General Prosecutor’s Office are set to pick up, on Wednesday, documents from the Directorate for Culture of the Municipality of Bucharest in the case of the theft of the Dacian treasure artifacts from the Drents Museum in the Netherlands, officials with the institution told AGERPRES.

The Prosecutor’s Office attached to the High Court of Cassation and Justice (PICCJ) announced on Saturday that a criminal case has been opened ex officio in the case of the theft of Dacian treasure artifacts exhibited at the Museum of Drents, Kingdom of the Netherlands.

„Following the analysis of the factual situation, a criminal case was opened ex officio, under the alleged offenses of aggravated theft and failure to comply with the regime of arms, ammunition and explosive materials,” reads a press release issued by the PICCJ.

The iconic golden helmet of Cotofenesti, dated to the 5th-4th centuries BC, as well as three Dacian gold bracelets from Sarmizegetusa Regia, dating from the second half of the 1st century BC, were stolen in a heist in which the robbers used an explosive device to break open the only exterior wall of the museum building.
