Senate President Ilie Bolojan emphasized on Thursday that one of Romania’s priorities is to keep the country on a pro-European and pro-Atlantic course after the presidential elections, as a pole of stability in the East of the European Union.
On Thursday evening, Ilie Bolojan participated in the event of the Romanian-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (AHK), where he emphasized that this institution has been „a source of inspiration” for the local administration.
„I would like to extend my sincere thanks to the Chamber of Commerce not only for representing Romanian-German companies over the years, but also because those who have been in the administration have been inspired by the Chamber’s actions. I am thinking of the Cities of Tomorrow Conferences, I am thinking of the promotion of dual education based on the Kronstadt model throughout our country. And I, as a former mayor of Oradea, if I did certain things, I benefited from an important consultancy from Augsburg and we have a high-performance heating system, we benefited from a German architect and we have a square that resembles one in Frankfurt, we have benefited from a transfer of experience and we have completed a campus for dual education. So, not only the seriousness, responsibility and discipline have been sources of inspiration, but also the actions of the Chamber of Commerce and I thank them, as a former administrator, for this social responsibility activity,” said Ilie Bolojan.
He thanked the German companies that have invested in Romania.
„I have to thank the companies that have invested in Romania, the investors and their managers, because these investments have meant technology transfer, they have meant access to markets, they have meant jobs in our country and we thank you for these investments. I also have to thank all those who work in these companies and their partners, because every person who works in private companies carries a part of our country on their shoulders and we thank all those who work in these companies and in the entire private sector in Romania for contributing to what Romania is today,” added Bolojan.
The president of the Senate said that the German Embassy is a friend of our country.
„For us an important collaboration as a country has been the collaboration with Germany. All these years, the German Embassy has been not only a partner but also a friend of our country. We would also like to thank the German taxpayers for the European funds Romania had access to and the public administrations with the support of which the face of many Romanian cities looks different today. Thank you for this partnership,” Bolojan went on to say.
He pointed out that Romania must remain a credible and stable partner that „provides guarantees for investors”.
„We are going through a complicated period and as Mr.ambassador said we have some important challenges to overcome. For colleagues in the Government there are two important challenges this year. (…) One important challenge is to maintain Romania as a credible partner, a stable partner, a partner that provides guarantees for investors, for those who do business in Romania. This means that we need to maintain a balanced budget. I have spoken with the minister of Finance to reduce the state’s operating expenses, to accept European funding, so that we can continue investments, generate growth and development and collect our revenues in such a way as to keep our country in a balanced situation that ensures predictability and a good place to do business for those who have decided to invest in Romania,” the president of the Senate detailed.
According to Bolojan, „another important priority (…) is to keep Romania on a pro-European and pro-Atlantic course after the presidential elections, a country integrated in Europe, a pole of stability in this East of the European Union”.
„And we will do everything possible to ensure that these two objectives are respected, out of respect for our citizens, out of respect for you, and I hope to hear of good work. We rely on your partnership,” concluded Ilie Bolojan.
