The Romanian Police rejected on Tuesday the accusations of politicizing police activities made by presidential candidate Calin Georgescu in a post on his Facebook page.
„We reject and condemn any unfounded accusation of politicizing police professional activity. Activities are carried out within a criminal case, under the coordination of the relevant Prosecutor’s Office unit and in compliance with the current legal framework. All activities of our institution, within all criminal cases, are conducted under the coordination of the Prosecutor’s Office units and under the authority of case prosecutors, with the aim of discovering the truth,” reads a press release the General Inspectorate of the Romanian Police (IGPR) sent to AGERPRES.
The IGPR brings to mind that the criminal investigation activity of the Judicial Police is confidential and is carried out under the authority of the competent Prosecutor’s Office units, with „hierarchical police officers having no authority to give orders regarding the conduct of criminal investigation acts.”
„All IGPR personnel carry out their activities with professionalism, impartiality, balance, and political neutrality,” the IGPR also pointed out.
„Militia officer Predoiu and some prosecutors sent masked officers this morning to my campaign chief, Radu Pally’s home. I demand the immediate cessation of this abuse – you cannot intimidate us – we cannot be kneecapped!,” Calin Georgescu claimed.
