Romania resumes the export of sheep and goats to Saudi Arabia

Published on

As of Monday, Romania officially obtained the agreement to resume the export of sheep and goats to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, a significant step in the development of bilateral trade relations. This achievement was made possible thanks to the negotiations supported by ANSVSA specialists, which started since 2017, and marks an important step forward in strengthening trade between the two countries.

Recall that in January 2025, an official delegation from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia paid a working visit to Romania with the aim of resuming the export of sheep and goats. The visit took place as part of an ongoing effort to open up external markets after trade was temporarily suspended due to outbreaks of Peste des petits ruminants (PRM).

The resumption of exports to Saudi Arabia is a significant result of the collaboration between the Romanian authorities and Saudi partners, underlining Romania’s continued commitment to support international trade while maintaining high animal health protection standards.

‘Through its actions, ANSVSA is creating new opportunities for Romanian producers, facilitating the resumption of exports to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This new achievement provides farmers with the possibility to valorize high quality animals on this market, generating significant benefits for the national economy’, said Alexandru Bociu, President of ANSVSA.

This reopening of the Saudi Arabian market is a clear sign of the maturation of economic relations between Romania and Saudi Arabia and opens new prospects for the Romanian agricultural sector, to the benefit of farmers and the industry.
