Three earthquakes with magnitudes between 2.8 and 3.2 occurr in Vrancea and Buzau counties

Three earthquakes with magnitudes between 2.8 and 3.2 Richter degrees occurred on Tuesday morning in the counties of Vrancea and Buzau, in the Vrancea seismic zone, according to information published by the National Institute for Earth Physics Research and Development (INCDFP).

The first earthquake, with a magnitude of 2.8, occurred at 3:21 AM local time in Vrancea County, at a depth of 77.7 km, near the following cities: 44 km west of Focsani, 65 km north of Buzau, 66 km east of Sfantu-Gheorghe, 78 km east of Brasov, 97 km south of Bacau, 97 km northeast of Ploiesti, and 99 km southwest of Barlad.

The second earthquake, with a magnitude of 2.9, occurred at 3:27 AM, also in Vrancea County, at a depth of 74.9 km, and a third earthquake, with a magnitude of 3.2, took place at 4:33 AM local time in Buzau County. The tectonic movement occurred at a depth of 118.1 km, near the following cities: 47 km northwest of Buzau, 51 km west of Focsani, 71 km southeast of Sfantu-Gheorghe, 76 km east of Brasov, and 77 km northeast of Ploiesti.

Since the beginning of February, Romania has experienced 18 earthquakes, with magnitudes ranging from 2.3 to 4.4.

The most significant earthquake in 2024, with a magnitude of 5.4, occurred in Buzau County on September 16.
